Fernand Pouillon, „Franciaország legkeresettebb építészének” munkássága, miután az 1960-as években bebörtönözték és rejtélyes módon megszökött, mára háttérbe szorulni látszik. Pedig 50 év alatt több mint 5 millió négyzetméternyi területen épített, főként Franciaország és Algéria között, frenetikus tempóban – hetente több tízezer kilométert utazott repülővel a munkaterületekre. Éjszaka vagy hajnalban is utazott, akár Marseille, Párizs, Algír vagy a sivatag közepe volt az úticél. Fernand Pouillon többek között a legszerényebb embereknek épített otthonokat; ma lakótelepeinek szépsége és minősége bizonyítja, hogy ez a sokat szidott építész talán megtalálta a gyógyírt a klasszikus nagy lakótelepek problémáira.

Jojo Fuentes egy santiagói festőművész, akit foglalkoztat, hogy az épített tér milyen hatással van az egyénekre és a közösségekre pszichológiai is szociális szinten. Villa Portales című kiállítása egy szociális bérlakáskomplexumot dokumentál, amely az 50-es és 60-as évek modern építészeti és várostervezési ikonja Santiago de Chilében. Cristian Vidal kiállításhoz kapcsolódó filmje a modern chilei építészetnek ezt a reprezentatív alkotását mutatja be, és szembeállítja a régebbi szociális tervezést, amely közösségépítésre ösztönzött, a „nagy és embertelen függőleges gettókkal”, amelyek ma jellemzik az alacsony jövedelműek lakhatási körülményeit.

Fernand Pouillon, “France’s most wanted architect,” seems to have been out of the spotlight since his imprisonment and mysterious escape in the 1960s. Yet during 50 years, he built on more than 5 million square meters of land, mainly between France and Algeria, and at a frenetic pace—he flew tens of thousands of kilometres a week to construction sites. No matter if night or dawn or if his destination was Marseille, Paris, Algiers or the middle of the desert. Fernand Pouillon, among others, built homes for the poorest people; today, the beauty and quality of his housing estates prove that this much-maligned architect may have found the cure for the problems of the classic large housing estates.

Jojo Fuentes is a painter from Santiago Chile, who is interested in how architectural space affects individuals and communities on a psychological and social level. Her exhibition Villa Portales documents a social housing complex, an icon of modern architecture and urban planning of the 1950s and 1960s Santiago. Cristian Vidal’s documentary, made in conjunction with Fuentes’ exhibition, introduces this representative work of modern Chilean architecture. The film contrasts earlier social housing designed to generate community with the “large and inhumane vertical ghettos”, characteristic of low-income housing today.
