Makk Károlynak megadatott, hogy 1971-ben a zsűri díját elnyert Szerelem című filmjével 2016-ban, kilencven évesen, és az 1956-os forradalom 60. évfordulóját ünnepelve visszatérhetett Cannes-ba.  A két Déry Tibor novellából egybefűzött alkotás kortalan szépségét Darvas Lili, Törőcsik Mari és Darvas Iván csodálatos játéka mellett az a rendezői lelemény adta, hogy Makk összekapcsolta az ötvenes évek koncepciós pereit idéző Szerelem és Déry saját sorsát, 1957-es börtönélményeit és szabadulásának körülményeit megörökítő Két asszony című novellák tartalmát. A film ily módon a haldokló anya és a börtönbe zárt férjet váró feleség szeretetkapcsolatának különös időutazásával a magánélet nyelvén tudott politikai üldözöttekről beszélni. Megindító film, amely soha nem avul. A film teljeskörű, 4K restaurálása 2016-ban, Makk Károly közreműködésével készült.

In 2016, sixty years after the revolution, at the age of 90, Károly Makk received the gift of returning to Cannes with his film Love, which in 1971 had been awarded the prize of the jury. Based on two short stories written by Tibor Déry, the film owes its timeless beauty, notwithstanding the great acting of Lili Darvas, Mari Törőcsik and Iván Darvas, to the director’s idea of combining the story of Love, which recalls the show trials of the fifties, and of Two Women, which accounts of Déry’s own fortunes, of his prison experience in 1957 and of the circumstances of his being released. By featuring the odd time travel of the friendship of the mother on her deathbed, and of the wife waiting for her imprisoned husband, the film was able to speak about the political convicts in the language of private life. It is a soul-stirring film never to become outdated. The complete 4K digital restoring of the film was performed in 2016, with Károly Makk participating.
